The overall market is affluent and amenity-driven, appealing to buyers seeking modern construction, community facilities, and top-rated schools within the Dallas–Fort Worth metro rather than historic character or urban walkability.

Lantana is composed of multiple villages and residential sections rather than a single uniform neighborhood. The first neighborhoods, Larkspur and Sandlin, established the community's pattern of planned sections built by different builders over time. As the community matured, additional villages filled in around the golf course and amenity centers, creating a landscape where each section carries its own streetscape and home styles. The golf course and trail network thread through the community, tying the villages together and giving residents direct access to shared amenities from almost any address.

At the same time, four Denton ISD campuses are located within the community itself: Tom Harpool Middle School, Annie Blanton Elementary, Eugenia Porter Rayzor Elementary, and Dorothy Adkins Elementary, with Rayzor the first school built in Lantana. This arrangement means many families have elementary and middle schools within the neighborhood, while the Argyle and Denton systems both provide highly regarded options that anchor the community's family-oriented appeal.

Lantana sits about eight miles south of Denton in the rapidly developing corridor of southern Denton County, with convenient access to Interstate 35E for travel toward Denton and the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. As a master-planned suburban development, Lantana is automobile-oriented for regional travel, but its compact amenity-rich layout reduces the need to leave the community for daily recreation and social life.
